FRANK CLARKE

(HEALTH AND SAFETY TUTOR)

Frank Clarke is an ex Steel Erector who had a bad industrial accident but now he has a new career - training others how to avoid accidents at work.
Frank joined the team at L T Dickinson Training in 2015 and because of his past experiences he is all too aware of the dangers out in the working world.
Frank, `died' twice in an Air Ambulance due to the Trauma on the way to hospital after he slipped off a ladder on a building site in London over 10 years ago.
He suffered fractures to his hip, thigh and wrist and thought he might never work again.
Frank said: "I had a choice between potentially spending the last 20 years of my working life on benefits or getting back on my feet. I had always earned good money as a Steel Erector, working in various parts of the UK and even in The Middle East, so to suddenly have that taken away was a massive shock - and it makes you realise how precious life is and how financial implications can quickly arise."
After the accident Frank suffered complications surrounding his hip repair, due to an infection, which resulted in him needing a hip replacement. This meant his wife Yvonne had to give up her job to care for him full-time. Frank said: "I had to learn to walk again and going through something like that really brings it home how serious an accident at work can be. Now I use my experience when I am training workers who might think it will never happen to them."
Frank has been working as a Health and Safety Instructor for the past 8 years after retraining at MANCAT and then Bolton University.
He currently trains workers in areas including Abrasive Wheels, Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height, Harnesses, PASMA Mobile Towers and Safe Use of Ladders - being all too aware of the dangers himself.
He said: "Health and Safety was always something that interested me but now it's a full-time occupation. People who have 'Taken a chance' or 'Cut a corner' can usually empathise with me"
