Asbestos Awareness
About the course
Asbestos may still be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000. Maintenance, repairs and refurbishment work can disturb materials containing asbestos and release harmful fibres.
This course introduces the history, properties and uses of asbestos, its effects on health, and the precautions needed to avoid exposure. It also explains the training requirements under Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for workers whose activities could disturb the fabric of a building or other items that may contain asbestos. This includes tradespeople, maintenance workers, and managers or supervisors responsible for overseeing this work.
Awareness training does not qualify delegates to work on asbestos-containing materials. Work that will intentionally disturb asbestos requires appropriate further training and controls.

They will understand the importance of checking available asbestos information before work begins, avoiding disturbance, and following the correct procedure if asbestos is suspected.
